Breathing in Confinement: Javad Alikordi, a lawyer and political prisoner held in Mashhad Prison, has been sentenced to imprisonment by the Revolutionary Court of the city.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Javad Alikordi, the brother of Khosrow Alikordi (the deceased lawyer), was sentenced by a branch of the Revolutionary Court of Mashhad to 10 years’ discretionary imprisonment.
According to published reports, no information is currently available regarding the charges brought against him, the conditions of the proceedings, or the judicial process.
Javad Alikordi, a resident of Sabzevar, was arrested on 12 December 2025 by security forces following the publication of a video in which he protested the mass arrests of citizens during the memorial ceremony marking the seventh day after his brother’s death. In the video, he expressed doubts regarding the official account of his brother’s death and stated that he possessed documents and information which, according to him, challenged the government’s official narrative.
Khosrow Alikordi, a lawyer representing some families seeking justice, died under suspicious circumstances in his office on 5 December 2025. While official institutions stated that the cause of death was “cardiac arrest,” his family questioned this explanation, citing evidence including unusual bleeding, and called for an independent, impartial, and transparent investigation. These requests remained unanswered. Instead, security pressure against family members reportedly intensified, ultimately leading to the arrest and sentencing of Javad Alikordi.
