In an attempt to reveal the violations of human rights in Iran, the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, publishes the gathered data regarding the human rights violations over the past one month (March 20 to April 20, 2022).

 

Executions

Despite the New Year celebrations in Iran, the authorities of the Islamic Republic did not stop the executions. During the first month of the New Persian Year (March 20 to April 20), at least 5 prisoners were executed and 8 others were sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court in various cities. Islamic Republic of Iran has the highest execution rate per capita in the world.

Among the executed prisoners, four were hanged on “drug-related” offenses and one prisoner from Afghanistan was executed on “murder” charges. Of the four prisoners executed for drug offenses, only one was reported by the estate media. Among those executed, a prisoner named Golmohammad was hanged in Karaj Central Prison, and four others named Faizullah Noorollahi, Ahmad Nouri, Hamid Goodarzian, and Mohammad Najjari, were executed in Arak Prison.

In April 2022, at least eight prisoners were sentenced to death on charges of “murder” and “rape.” Among them, three prisoners have been sentenced to death in public on charges related to the “murder of a police officers” in the cities of Fooladshahr, Isfahan and Khorramabad.

Despite widespread international condemnations and the latest report released by Javaid Rehman, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran, the judges in Iran continue to issue the inhumane sentence of execution.

 

Flogging sentences

In addition to death sentences, judges of the Islamic Republic have issued sentences of a total of 1,480 lashes for civil activists. Branch 101 of the Criminal Court 2 in Borujen sentenced 20 people each to 74 lashes for participating in a rally to protest the project of water transfer from Sabzkooh to Borujen. Besides flogging, the protesters were also sentenced to prison.

 

Arrest warrants and detention sentences

Over the past month, at least 89 activists including 11 women were detained by security forces.

The detained protesters included labor activists, teachers’ activists, participants in the Nowruz (New Year) celebration ceremony in Kurdistan, social media activists, etc. A number of detainees have been temporarily released, thirty seven of them however, are still in custody.

In the  last month, at least 46 people including 18 political activists, 1 ethnic activist, a member of the Justice Seekers Families (Dadkhahan), 2 teachers’ union activists, 20 protesters to water transfer project, and 3 Christian converts were sentenced to a total of 224 years, 7 months and 3 days in prison. Five of them have already been taken to prison to serve their sentences.

 

Workers

In April 2022, at least 25 workers lost their lives in work accidents due to the lack of safety measures. In addition, at least 45 workers were injured in work accidents.

Fifty-six workers were also fired without receiving any payment.

Thirty workers of the Steel Mills Complex with at least 15 years of experience were fired.

Agro-Industrial Complex in Lorestan fired 23 workers for protesting their contracts. And three workers at the Abadeh Cement Factory were fired for representing other workers and raising their concerns.

 

Protest rallies

In April 2022, at least 137 protests rallies took place by various groups of people, including retirees, pharmacists, workers, ranchers, drivers, teachers, etc.

The protests were mainly related to living conditions, low salaries, and non-payment of previous months’ salaries.
