Breathing in Confinement – Sunday, 18 May 2025 – At least one death row prisoner held on a charge of “murder” in Ilam Central Prison has been transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for execution.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the prisoner has been identified as Adnan Labakpour, whose identity has been verified by the organisation.
Adnan Labakpour, a resident of Ilam Province, was arrested around five years ago on a charge of murder and was eventually sentenced to death. His transfer to solitary confinement indicates that his execution is imminent.
Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
