Alieh Motalebzadeh deported to Qarchak prison in Varamin

Breathing in Confinement: On January 10, Alieh Motalebzadeh, a photographer and women’s rights activist, was deported from Evin Prison to Qarchak Prison in Varamin.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners Rights League in Iran, Aliyeh Motalebzadeh, a photographer and women’s rights activist, was deported from Evin Prison to Qarchak Varamin Prison following a ceremony held to honor Baktash Abtin, a member of the Iranian Writers’ Association.
Ms. Motalebzadeh was sentenced to 3 years in prison by the Revolutionary Court in Tehran in 2017. Pursuant to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, the most severe punishment, i.e. 2 years of imprisonment, is applicable to her.
Alieh Motalebzadeh was arrested on November 27, 2017, after appearing in the Ministry of Intelligence where she had been summoned to via a phone call. She was released on December 20 of the same year, on 300 million Tomans bail.
Ms. Motalebzadeh was sentenced to three years in prison by Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court on charge of “gathering and colluding” as well as “propaganda against the regime”. Her sentence was later upheld by Branch 36 of the Court of Appeals.
