Arjang Davoudi released from Rajaeishahr prison in Karaj

Breathing in Confinement: On Saturday, March 4, 2023, Arjang Davoudi, a political prisoner, was released from Rajaeishahr Prison in Karaj.
According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on Saturday, March 4, 2023, Arjang Davoudi was released from Rajaeishahr prison in Karaj.
Arjang Davoudi was arrested in November 2003 near Tehran University and was sentenced to 15 years in prison, 74 lashes and 5 years of deprivation from his social rights for the charges of “acting against national security and insulting the sacred and the leader of the Islamic Republic”. His sentence was eventually reduced to 10 years in prison.
However, while in prison, other cases opened against Mr. Davoudi and therefore his prison sentence was increased to 20 years and 8 months.
During his 18 years of imprisonment, Mr. Davoudi was exiled to various prisons in Iran. He was first deported from Evin prison to a prison in Ahvaz, from there to Bandar Abbas Central Prison and then to Rajaeishahr Prison in Karaj. Then, on Saturday, September 24, 2016, he was deported from Rajaeishahr prison in Karaj to Zabul prison.
It should be noted that in July 2014, when he was incarcerated in Rajaeishahr Prison, Mr Davoudi was sentenced to death by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court in Karaj on the charge of “supporting and effectively promoting the goals of the People’s Mojahedin Organization.” Finally, in early 2016, Appeal Court reduced his sentence to 5 years of imprisonment as well as exile to Zabul prison.
During his imprisonment, several times Arjang Davoudi went on hunger strike in protest of his conditions in detention.
In addition, Mr Davoudi’s house was confiscated and sold by the order of Judge Haddad. In an interview with Radio Farda, Arjang Davoudi’s wife said in this regard: “Our house was both a place of residence and a school. The school wherein the “Light of Wisdom” cultural and educational complex was located and where the students studied, but it was sealed.”
Mr. Davoudi has a master’s degree in industrial management from the USA. After completing his studies, he returned to Iran and started working as an activist.
