Arrest of Political Prisoner Ehsan Rostami’s Father in Harsin

Breathing in Confinement – On 17 October 2025, agents of the Ministry of Intelligence in Harsin raided the home of Jahangir Rostami, a retired teacher and cultural activist from the city and the father of political prisoner Ehsan Rostami. After beating him, they arrested Mr Rostami and transferred him to Tehran.
According to Breathing in Confinement, Jahangir Rostami was moved after his arrest to one of the Ministry of Intelligence detention facilities located inside Evin Prison. Informed sources describe his physical condition as poor, and say there is still no precise information on his current place of detention.
At the same time, Ministry of Intelligence agents in Kermanshah raided the home of Parnia Rostami, Ehsan Rostami’s sister. After searching the house, they beat Parnia’s husband, Saeed Khoncheh-Zar, and detained Parnia herself for several hours. According to reports, interrogators told the family these actions were intended to pressure Ehsan Rostami to cooperate.
Reliable sources say Ehsan Rostami has been detained in Tehran for over two months along with four others and is being held in solitary confinement under intense pressure to extract forced confessions. In recent days, he has gone on hunger strike in protest.
Amid continued pressure, an individual named Afshari, head of security/protection at the Evin Prosecutor’s Office, threatened Ehsan Rostami’s family that they would be arrested if they returned to inquire about his situation.
