Breathing in Confinement: Craig Foreman, a British citizen and traveller currently serving his sentence in Evin Prison, has gone on hunger strike in protest against restrictions imposed on him and his wife.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Mr Foreman faced disciplinary restrictions from prison authorities after giving an interview to the BBC World Service in which he referred to the difficult living conditions faced by people in Iran. According to the report, he has been deprived of both in-person and cabin visits with his wife for three weeks.

It is reported that the restriction was imposed without a transparent disciplinary process, prompting his protest. Foreman’s hunger strike is said to be in response to these restrictions and in protest against his conditions of detention and the authorities’ treatment of him.

Craig Foreman and his wife, Lindsay Foreman, both motorcycle travellers touring the world overland, entered Iran via Armenia during a journey intended to continue towards Australia. The couple were arrested in January 2025 in the city of Kerman.

The spokesperson for the Judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran stated that the pair had allegedly gathered information under the cover of tourism activities. On this basis, they were arrested on charges of “espionage” and were ultimately each sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment.
