Continuation of arbitrary detentions in Ahvaz

Breathing in Confinement: In the first days of Eid al-Fitr, a number of Arab citizens were arrested in the Cities of Ahvaz and Koureh (Taleghani) in the port of Mahshahr. The mother of one of the victims of the November 2019 protests is among the detainees.

 

According to Ahvaz Human Rights Sources, the detainees were arrested after gathering and chanting slogans in front of the houses of the martyrs of the November 2019 protests as well as the executed activists. Some of the residents of Alavi alley (Hay al-Thawra) in Ahvaz who were arrested and transferred to unknown locations by plainclothes agents and intelligence forces, have been identified as: Rasoul Zuhairi, Shakir Silavi, Mohammad Silavi, Qais Savari, Walid Savari and Hamzeh Chaldavi.

 

As per the local sources, the wave of arrests which began on May 15, is still ongoing. In addition to these detentions, many individuals who had history of detention or imprisonment, have also been summoned.

On Sunday, May 16, 2021 also, a number of Arab residents of Zavieh Alley in the northern part of Ahvaz were arrested by the intelligence service. Three of these detainees have been identified as: Faisal and Karamat Hezbavi, sons of Ramadan, and Badrieh Hamidavi, mother of Ali Tamimi, a protester who was killed in the November 2019 uprisings.

 

According to local sources, on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, security forces also arrested two Arab citizens in the city of Koureh (Taleghani).

 

Mehdi Mohammadi, the Public Prosecutor of Mahshahr Port, confirmed the arrest of the two citizens, but did mention their names.
