Breathing in Confinement – the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran – reports on the continuation of the “Tuesdays Against Execution” hunger-strike campaign by political prisoners, now reaching its 96th week across 55 prisons.

According to Breathing in Confinement, in the 96th week of the “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign, political prisoners have continued their hunger strike, raising their voices against the escalating wave of executions in Iran. With Birjand Central Prison joining the movement, this act of civil resistance has now spread to 55 prisons across the country. The campaign continues at a time when the unprecedented acceleration of executions—carried out without fair trials and used deliberately to instil fear—has become one of the regime’s primary tools of repression. In this climate, the prisoners’ statement stands not only as a protest against widespread human rights violations but also as a reminder of the urgent need for public and international support for families and protesters who continue to resist despite threats and pressure.

Statement of the Political Prisoners

With Birjand Central Prison joining, the “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign has expanded to 55 prisons in its 96th week.

The 96th week of the “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign comes at a time when the repressive machinery in Iran, in an unprecedented rush to preserve its power, has intensified the pace of executions. The widening scope of executions—carried out in the absence of fair judicial proceedings and used systematically as a tool of intimidation and terror—constitutes a clear violation of fundamental human rights and a blatant example of crimes against humanity.

This week, Birjand Central Prison has joined the previous 54 prisons that have been conveying the message of “No to Execution” from behind prison walls.

During this week, the adoption of the 72nd United Nations resolution condemning human rights violations in Iran reaffirmed two decisive legal truths:
1. Recognition of the 1988 massacre and concern over its recurrence
2. Condemnation of the unprecedented surge in executions and the regime’s use of executions as an instrument of intimidation and repression

Despite this, the government continues its execution campaign. The issuance of an execution sentence for Mohammad-Mahdi Soleimani, one of the detainees of the 2022 protests, is not an isolated case but rather a consistent pattern of eliminating protesters through an invalid and politically driven judicial process. In the past month alone, 311 executions have taken place—an unprecedented number since the 1988 massacre. Moreover, 59 people have been executed since last week, and 1,479 since March this year.

Families of prisoners sentenced to death, despite summons, threats, arrests, and mounting security pressure, continue to stand in the streets week after week to defend the lives of their loved ones. Their protest urgently requires broad public and international support.

On Tuesday, 25 November 2025, the “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign, in its 96th week, included political prisoners on hunger strike in the following 55 prisons:

Evin (women’s and men’s wards), Qezel Hesar (Units 2, 3 and 4), Karaj Central Prison, Fardis Karaj Prison, Greater Tehran Prison, Qarchak, Khorrin Varamin, Choobin-dar Qazvin, Ahar, Arak, Langarud Qom, Khorramabad, Borujerd, Yasuj, Asadabad Isfahan, Dastgerd Isfahan, Sheiban Ahvaz, Sepidar Ahvaz (women’s and men’s wards), Nezam Shiraz, Adelabad Shiraz (women’s and men’s wards), Firuzabad Fars, Dehdasht, Zahedan (women’s and men’s wards), Borazjan, Ramhormoz, Behbahan, Bam, Yazd, Kahnouj, Tabas, Mashhad, Sabzevar, Gonbad-e Kavus, Qaemshahr, Rasht (women’s and men’s wards), Rudsar, Haviq Talesh, Azbaram Lahijan, Dizelabad Kermanshah, Ardabil, Tabriz, Urmia, Salmas, Khoy, Naqadeh, Miandoab, Mahabad, Bukan, Saqqez, Baneh, Marivan, Sanandaj, Kamyaran, Ilam, and Birjand Central Prison.
