Breathing in Confinement — The hunger strike of political prisoners under the campaign “Tuesdays Against Execution” has reached its 101st week, spanning 55 prisons across the country.

In a land where death has for years been transformed into an instrument of governance, and where gallows have cast their heavy shadow over human life and hope, the flame of resistance remains alight. Within prisons—where walls bear witness to silenced cries and unspoken acts of defiance—individuals stand firm, placing their lives as a shield in defence of dignity and freedom. Hunger strike, this wordless yet resonant language, is a cry rising from awakened consciences: a cry against execution, against killing in the name of law, and against the normalisation of death.

The “Tuesdays Against Execution” hunger strike campaign led by political prisoners serves as a reminder that even in the darkest nights, a light can be kindled. This campaign is not merely a protest against the gallows, but a human covenant affirming the right to life—a bond between prisoners and society, between individual suffering and collective responsibility. At a time when the authorities seek to replace hope with fear through intensified repression and executions, these Tuesdays have become a symbol of courage, solidarity, and faith in a future free from execution and organised state violence.

Statement of the 101st Week of the “Tuesdays Against Execution” Campaign

Continuation of the campaign in its 101st week across 55 prisons, coinciding with strikes and protests in Tehran’s Grand Bazaar

The “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign extends its congratulations on the birth of Christ and the New Year to all Christians, and expresses its hope for freedom and liberation for all compatriots subjected to repression and oppression by the ruling religious dictatorship. In the words of Jesus Christ:

“Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.”

We enter the 101st Tuesday Against Execution at a time when Tehran’s merchants have launched strikes and protests since Sunday in response to state injustice and oppression. These protests have expanded significantly and have spread to several other cities.

In these critical days, the authorities have intensified repression and executions in an attempt to prevent the escalation of popular uprisings. In recent days, death sentences have been communicated to two Kurdish political prisoners—Mehrab Abdollahzadeh in Urmia Prison and Younes Bakhshi in Mahabad Prison. Moreover, since late December, more than 96 prisoners have been executed, including one woman in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad.

The “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign expresses its gratitude to all families and supporters who stood behind the campaign during its 100th week, and calls for broader support for the “No to Execution” campaign, so that the blade of repression and execution may be blunted and the conditions for the abolition of this inhuman punishment may be realised.
