On Saturday, 17 May 2025, the death sentence of Amir Hossein Maghsoudloo, a pop singer, has been upheld by the Supreme Court and referred to the court for execution.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangiri announced on Saturday that the Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence of “Amir Hossein Maghsoudloo” (Tatalloo) on charges of insulting sacred values.

He stated: “Amir Hossein Maghsoudloo had initially been sentenced to five years in prison by Branch 9 of the Tehran Criminal Court One on the charge of ‘insulting sacred values.’ Following an appeal, the Supreme Court overturned the ruling and referred the case to a parallel court (Branch 6 of the Criminal Court One) for retrial, which ultimately issued a death sentence. That verdict was also appealed, but the Supreme Court has recently upheld it and referred it to the court for enforcement. Therefore, the death sentence is now final and ready for execution.”

Amir Hossein Maghsoudloo, known as Tatalloo, was arrested by Turkish police on 3 December 2023 and handed over to the Islamic Republic three days later at the Bazargan border. He was immediately detained on the orders of the judiciary.
