Breathing in Confinement – A group of political prisoners at Evin Prison held a protest against the sudden and unexplained transfer of Ali Younesi to an undisclosed location.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on the morning of 20 June, several political prisoners detained in Evin Prison staged a protest during their outdoor time, voicing opposition to the abrupt relocation of imprisoned student Ali Younesi without prior notice or legal explanation.
This unexpected action, carried out without official communication or a clear legal basis, has raised serious concerns over Younesi’s well-being and fate.
Simultaneously, reports suggest increasing security pressure and tighter restrictions on political prisoners in the wake of Israeli airstrikes. In response to the heightened tensions arising from the Iran-Israel conflict, prison authorities have intensified crackdowns within detention centres.
Following the peaceful protest by prisoners, officials reportedly threatened them with relocation to unknown locations and suspended their access to basic facilities such as the prison library and gym.
Such actions—including secretive prisoner transfers, security threats, and unlawful deprivation of rights, constitute clear violations of prisoners’ fundamental rights and disregard for international human rights standards.
