Fourteen Dervish prisoners are in dangerous condition on their Forty-eighth day of hunger strike

Breathing in Confinement: Physical conditions of 14 Gonabadi Dervish inmates who have been on hunger strike since 48 days in Great Tehran and other cities prisons, have been reported as seriously dangerous.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, fourteen dervish prisoners who have been on hunger strike since November 3, 2019, are in a dangerous condition.

On December 19, given their serious condition, four of the on strike Dervish inmates were transferred from Great Tehran Prison to Firouzabadi Hospital. With intervention of security forces, however, they were returned back to the prison after a few hours of being admitted to CCU.

Reza Entesari, Ahmad Iranikhah, Morteza Kangarloo, and Mohammad Sharifi Moghaddam were Dervish prisoners who had been transferred from Fashafouyeh prison to the hospital at 1:00 am, due to intestinal obstruction, gastric bleeding, and decreased level of consciousness.

Faezeh Abdipour, Mohammad Sharifi’s wife, posted this news on her Twitter page adding that leaving their treatment incomplete, they have been transferred back to Fashafouyeh Prison.

According to Breathing in Confinement, on the 48th day of his hunger strike, Sina Ansari has developed gastric bleeding. Other strikers also are in a dangerous condition. Faezeh Abdipour announced that these prisoners are not permitted to be sent to the hospital. She wrote on her Twitter page: “Note that the letter for their immediate transfer to the hospital has been issued, they, however, are not being sent to the hospital.”

It is noteworthy that fourteen Dervish inmates; Sina Entesari, Saeed Durandish, Salahuddin Moradi, Seyed Mostafa Mirmohammadi, Mostafa Abdi, Sekhavat Salimi, Saeed Soltanpour, Javad Khamis Abadi, Shahram Moghaddasi, Majid Rashidi, Reza Entesari, Ahmad Iranikhah, Mortaza Kangarluo, and Mohammad Sharifi Moghadam have been on a hunger strike since 48 days in protest against security approaches to Dervish community, closing their Hussainiyeh and banning their gatherings. They demand an end to these security approaches and oppressive behaviors.
