Breathing in Confinement: On Saturday, November 23, 2024, at least three prisoners, including one convicted of drug-related offenses, were transferred to solitary confinement cells at Karaj Central Prison in preparation for their execution.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, three prisoners were transferred to solitary confinement at Karaj Central Prison for execution. The identity of one of these prisoners, Moslem Jafari, has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement.
As per the reports, Moslem Jafari had previously been arrested on charges related to drug offenses and sentenced to death. The identities of the two other prisoners are still under investigation.
Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
