More than 1,000 indictments have been issued for the detainees of the uprising in Tehran province

Breathing in Confinement: According to the spokesperson of the judiciary, more than 1,000 indictments have been issued for the detainees of the recent protests in Tehran province.

According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Masoud Setayeshi, the spokesman of the judiciary, announced the issuance of more than 1,000 indictments for the detainees of the recent protests only in Tehran province.

Calling the detainees “turbulent”, Setayeshi announced: “According to the most updated statistics, 1024 indictments have been issued for the detainees of the recent riots in Tehran.”

“The outcome of our actions and decisions should be a lesson to the defendants and prevent the others to repeat similar activities. They should feel regretful,” said Setayeshi about the way of treating detainees.

Massoud Setayeshi announced that the trials for the detainees will be held publicly. He added due to the large number of cases, “4 branches in the Tehran Islamic Revolution Court, 1 branch in the 2nd Criminal Court, and 1 branch in the first Criminal Court will handle the cases of the detainees in Tehran metropolis. To deal with these crimes, other branches also have been assigned in the cities such as Islamshahr, Damavand, Pardis and Varamin.

The Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, expressing deep concern about the situation of the detainees of the recent  uprising in Iran, calls on all human rights entiies including the United Nations Human Rights Committee to hold the authorities of the Islamic Republic accountable for the treatment of the recent detainees. These detainees are under torture for forced confessions, and the international community must use deterrent measures to urge the authorities of the Islamic Republic to clarify their situation.
