Breathing in Confinement – In the continuation of mounting pressure and repression against political prisoners, a court session to address a new charge against Ali Younesi, a political prisoner and award-winning student, was held on Monday, 28 July 2025.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Aida Younesi, Ali Younesi’s sister, announced via her account on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that the court session was convened to examine the charge of “propaganda against the regime”, and that her brother defended himself during the hearing.
According to Aida Younesi, following the Israeli airstrikes on Evin Prison, Ali Younesi was first transferred to Fashafouyeh Prison (Greater Tehran Prison) and later exiled to Qom Prison. She wrote:
“After three months of waiting and having no information, my mother was finally able to visit Ali. He had been transferred from Qom Prison to the Revolutionary Court. From the time Ali was abducted from Ward 4 of Evin and moved to solitary confinement, followed by the bombing, relocation to Fashafouyeh, and eventual exile to Qom, our family has endured constant anxiety and lack of information.”
It is worth noting that a court session for Amir Hossein Moradi, another award-winning student and Ali Younesi’s co-defendant, had already taken place on 20 July. However, according to informed sources, Ali Younesi was prevented from attending that session.
