Breathing in Confinement – Coinciding with the 83rd week of the “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign, launched by political prisoners in 50 prisons across the country, families of political prisoners sentenced to death also held demonstrations demanding the immediate abolition of death sentences.

In addition, at least nine other protest rallies and actions took place in different parts of the country.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, in a statement marking this week’s campaign, political prisoners condemned the regime’s use of executions and the public hanging of two prisoners (aimed at normalising violence and spreading fear). They also denounced the conversion of Section 41 of Behesht Zahra Cemetery—where thousands of victims of the 1980s massacres are buried—into a car park, describing it as a shameful attempt to erase collective memory and a blatant insult to the victims and their families.

This campaign was held in the following prisons:
Evin; Ghezel Hesar (Units 3 and 4); Karaj Central; Fardis Karaj; Greater Tehran; Qarchak; Khorrin Varamin; Choubindar Qazvin; Ahar; Arak; Khorramabad; Yasuj; Esfahan Asadabad; Esfahan Dastgerd; Ahvaz Sheyban; Ahvaz Sepidar (men’s and women’s wards); Shiraz Nezam; Shiraz Adelabad (men’s and women’s wards); Firoozabad (Fars); Zahedan (women’s ward); Borazjan; Ramhormoz; Behbahan; Bam; Yazd; Kahnouj; Tabas; Mashhad; Gonbad-e Kavus; Qaem Shahr; Rasht (men’s and women’s wards); Roudsar; Haviq Talesh; Azbarom Lahijan; Dizelabad Kermanshah; Ardabil; Tabriz; Urmia; Salmas; Khoy; Naqadeh; Miandoab; Mahabad; Bukan; Saqqez; Baneh; Marivan; Sanandaj; Kamyaran; and Dehdasht.
