Breathing in Confinement: Atena Daemi, a civil rights activist who is serving her fifth year in Evin Prison, was summoned this morning to Branch 2 of Evin Prison Court, for a new case filed against her.

Atena Daemi was summoned to Branch 2 of the Prison Prosecutor’s Office on June 7, 2020 to be charged in a new case, reported Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran. She is accused of “disrupting the prison’s order” through chanting slogans against the Islamic Republic on eve of February 11.

Ensieh Daemi, Atena’s sister, announcing the news, wrote on her personal page: “Earlier today, Sunday June 7, the seventh case was opened against Atena at Branch 2 of Evin Prison Court on charge of disrupting the prison’s order through chanting slogans against the Islamic Republic on eve of February 11. As such, over the last eight months, every 2 months, one case has been opened against Atena.”

In addition, Ms. Daemi has previously been tried at Branch 24 of the Revolutionary Court, on charges of insulting the sanctities. During the course of her imprisonment, she was also sentenced to three years and seven months in prison, in another case, along with Golrokh Eraei. This however, based on Article 34 of the Islamic law, was later reduced to two years and one month.
