Pressures Grow on Political Prisoners in Uremia Prison

Breathing in Confinement – Ministry of Intelligence agents have increased the pressures on political prisoners in Central Prison of Uremia.

According to the report of “Breathing in Confinement”, during the recent round of the pressures, Ali Ahmad Suleiman, political prisoner who has been sentenced to death was taken to an unknown location from ward 12 of this prison, on 3rd February at 9 am, and there is no information about his condition.

This abrupt transition has raised some concerns about the possibility of his sentence to be carried out.

A source who asked to be anonymous, in this regard told “Breathing in Confinement’s” reporter, “intelligence officers in Uremia prison, during the last week have summoned 3 of the political prisoners and threatened them.”

He added: “Intelligence officers have mentioned specifically Ali Ahmad Suleiman’s name and had threatened him because of his participation in prisoners’ hunger strike in December last year and had told him; he will regret participating in the hunger strike.”

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Intelligence has told prisoners that there is a list of 10 political prisoners in ward 12 who are in the “turn to exile” to faraway prisons.

The prison officials have stressed that in near future, 100 “Murderer” and “Dangerous” prisoners will be transferred to political prisoners’ ward.

This is to say, 29 political prisoners of ward 12 in Central Prison of Uremia, went on hunger strike from 20th November, demanding separation from general crime prisoners, that eventually after 33 days it was ended by prisoners as they get what they demanded and 32 ordinary prisoners were transferred to other wards.

At the present, 20 general prisoners and 35 political prisoners are held in ward 12 which is political prisoners’ ward and on the other hand 20 political prisoners are in other wards in Central Prison of Uremia.
