Breathing in Confinement — At least one prisoner, convicted on drug-related charges, has been transferred to solitary confinement at Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj in preparation for execution.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on Thursday, 28 August 2025 a prisoner at Ghezel Hesar was moved to solitary to await execution. The individual’s identity has been verified by the outlet and is being withheld.
This transfer follows the execution of eight prisoners at the same facility yesterday.
The prisoner is from Hamedan and had previously been arrested and sentenced to death on drug-related charges.
Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
