Prisoners of Central Prison of Tabriz Deprived of Visiting their Families

Breathing in confinement – Since about one year ago, all the prisoners at Central Prison of Tabriz have been deprived of close visit with their families.
According to the report of “Breathing in Confinement”, since January 2014, authorities of Central Prison of Tabriz only allowed prisoners to have cabin visits with their families and none of the inmates of this prison has had the right of close visit since then.
One of the inmates of Central Prison of Tabriz in an interview told “Breathing in Confinement’s” reporter: “Stopping drug transportation into the prison, is the reason which has been stated by the authorities”.
He added: “Last winter, they started to repair the cabin visiting hall and since January 2013 till today no one had close visit. At first, prison officials said; the cause of the problem was repairing the visiting hall but after a while they talked about their intention to stop drugs transportation into the prison, nevertheless still with this unlawful restrictions, you can always find drugs inside the prison.”
That is to say, according to unofficial data, about 4 thousand prisoners are held at Central Prison of Tabriz among whom there are political prisoners, including Ayatollah Mehr Alibeiglo and Mahmoud Fazli.
In the absence of a separate ward for political prisoners, these political prisoners are held among the apolitical prisoners in difficult conditions.
