Release of Maryam Afrafraz and Mohammad Reza Faghihi on bail

Breathing in Confinement: On August 29, 2021, Maryam Afrafaraz, a civil activist and a member of Imam Ali’s Popular Students Relief Society, and Mohammad Reza Faghihi who is a lawyer, were released on bail awaiting the court’s decision. They had been arrested on August 14, along with a number of lawyers as well as civil activists, including Mostafa Nili, Arash Kaykhosravi, Mehdi Mahmoudian, Mohammad Hadi Erfanian Kaseb, and Leila Heydari, at a meeting held at the office of the Association for Protection of Civil Rights in Tehran.
According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on Sunday, August 29, 2021, Maryam Afrafaraz, a civil activist and a member of Imam Ali’s Popular Students Relief Society, and Mohammad Reza Faghihi who is a lawyer, were released on bail of 500 million Tomans, awaiting the court’s decision. However, Mustafa Nili, Arash Kaykhosravi and Mehdi Mahmoudian, who had also been arrested simultaneously with Ms. Afrafraz and Mr. FAghihi, and some other lawyers and civil activists, are still in custody.
On Saturday, August 14, 2021, 9 lawyers and civil activists, including Arash Kaykhosravi, Mostafa Nili, Mehdi Mahmoudian, Mohammad Reza Faghihi, Mohammad Hadi Erfanian Kasb, Maryam Afrafraz and Leila Heidari, were arrested at a meeting held at the office of the Association for Protection of Civil Rights in Tehran. A few hours later, a number of detainees were released, but Arash Kaykhosravi, Mostafa Nili, Mehdi Mahmoudian, Mohammad Reza Faghihi and Maryam Afrafaraz were transferred to an unknown location.
