Return of Ehsan Faridi, Death-Row Political Prisoner, to Tabriz Prison After Transfer to Intelligence Agency Custody

Breathing in Confinement – Ehsan Faridi, a 22-year-old student and political prisoner sentenced to death, who was transferred three days ago to the Tabriz Intelligence Department, has been returned to Tabriz Central Prison.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Faridi was taken to the Intelligence Department’s detention facility for three days and has now been brought back to Tabriz Central Prison. Reports indicate that a hearing in his case is scheduled for Thursday, 23 October 2025, at Branch Nine of the Supreme Court.

Per publicly shared information, including an Instagram post by his mother, Parvin Hayati, Faridi was first arrested in 2023, released on bail on 18 March 2025, and initially sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for “propaganda against the state” and eighteen months in another part of the same case. On 18 June 2024, he was summoned and re-arrested by Branch Fifteen of the Tabriz Revolutionary Court’s Prosecutor’s Office, with the charges upgraded to “corruption on earth (efsad-e fel-arz)” and “membership in the People’s Mojahedin Organisation of Iran (PMOI/MKO)”.

Subsequently, Branch Three of the Tabriz Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Hassan Fathpour, issued a death sentence, which has already been upheld by the Supreme Court.
