Rise in the Number of Prisoners Transferred to Solitary Confinement for Execution in Karaj Central Prison

Breathing in Confinement – On Saturday, 7 June 2025, at least three prisoners sentenced to death on drug-related charges were transferred to solitary confinement in Karaj Central Prison in preparation for the implementation of their death sentences.
According to reporters from Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, three prisoners at Karaj Central Prison were moved to solitary confinement to await execution. Their identities have been confirmed as Kiumars Bahrami, Karim Hemmati, and Yaghoub Yari.
Kiumars Bahrami, Karim Hemmati, and Yaghoub Yari had previously been arrested in separate cases on charges related to drug offences and were sentenced to death.
Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report by the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
