Breathing in Confinement – Alongside the hunger strike and the eighty-second week of the “Tuesdays Against the Death Penalty” campaign by political prisoners in 49 prisons across the country, families of political prisoners sentenced to death also held a protest gathering to denounce death sentences against their children and to support the prisoners’ strike. On the same day, five other protests were held by different sectors of society.

According to the campaign’s statement, political prisoners in below mentioned 49 prisons were  on hunger strike on Tuesday, 19 August:

Evin Prison, Ghezel Hesar Prison (Units 3 and 4), Karaj Central Prison, Fardis Prison (Karaj), Greater Tehran Prison, Qarchak Prison, Khorin Varamin Prison, Choobindar Prison (Qazvin), Ahar Prison, Arak Prison, Khorramabad Prison, Yasuj Prison, Asadabad Prison (Isfahan), Dastgerd Prison (Isfahan), Sheiban Prison (Ahvaz), Sepidar Prison (Ahvaz, men’s and women’s wards), Shiraz Nezam Prison, Adelabad Prison (Shiraz, men’s and women’s wards), Firouzabad Prison (Fars), Zahedan Prison (women’s ward), Borazjan Prison, Ramhormoz Prison, Behbahan Prison, Bam Prison, Yazd Prison, Kahnouj Prison, Tabas Prison, Mashhad Prison, Gonbad Kavous Prison, Qaemshahr Prison, Rasht Prison (men’s and women’s wards), Roodsar Prison, Haviq (Talesh) Prison, Azbarm (Lahijan) Prison, Dizelabad Prison (Kermanshah), Ardabil Prison, Tabriz Prison, Urmia Prison, Salmas Prison, Khoy Prison, Naqadeh Prison, Miandoab Prison, Mahabad Prison, Boukan Prison, Saqqez Prison, Baneh Prison, Mariwan Prison, Sanandaj Prison, and Kamyaran Prison.

In their statement, the political prisoners emphasized that:

The continued lack of information regarding five political prisoners sentenced to death and members of this campaign – Vahid Beni-Amrian, Pouya Ghobadi, Babak Alipour, Mohammad Taghavi, and Akbar (Shahrokh) Danshvar Kar – along with a political-security prisoner also sentenced to death, Babak Shahbazi, is a clear sign of gross human rights violations and mounting pressure on prisoners.

In addition, the Supreme Court’s confirmation of the death sentence against political prisoner Sharifeh Mohammadi once again exposes the absence of justice and the cruelty of the judiciary of an execution-driven regime that has lost all legitimacy in society.
