Soheila Hijab deported to Sanandaj Prison

Breathing in Confinement: On Tuesday, November 16, the political prisoner, Soheila Hijab, was deported from Qarchak Prison in Varamin to Sanandaj Prison. The imprisoned lawyer, Ms. Hijab,  has been serving her five-year sentence in Qarchak prison in Varamin since June 2020.

 

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Soheila Hijab after being  treated violently by prison officials, was deported from Qarchak Varamin Prison to Sanandaj Prison.

 

Ms. Hijab was previously sentenced to a total of 18 years in prison by Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Moghiseh, on charges of “propaganda against the regime, gathering and collusion, disturbing public opinion with the intent of creating chaos and forming an illegal group.” The sentence was upheld by Branch 36 of the Court of Appeals in Tehran, presided over by Judge Ahmad Zargar. Pursuant to Article 134, 5 years of imprisonment is applicable to Ms. Hijab.

 

In December, last year, a court hearing was held in Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari, on the new case filed against Soheila Hijab while in prison. In her new case, Ms. Hijab has been charged with propaganda against the regime as well as disturbing the public mind. The content of her phone conversation to outside prison,  published on social media, was referred to as evidence for the new case against Ms. Hijab.
