Ten Prisoners Transferred to Solitary Confinement in Ghezel Hesar Prison for Execution

Breathing in Confinement – On Monday, 7 April 2025, at least ten prisoners convicted of murder and drug-related offences were transferred to solitary confinement in Ghezel Hesar Prison in preparation for the implementation of their death sentences.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, ten prisoners were moved to solitary cells in Ghezel Hesar Prison ahead of their executions. The identities of three of them — Ali Shahbazi, Ghorban Karami Nasr, and Mehdi Salan — have been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement. The identities of the remaining seven prisoners are still under investigation.
Ali Shahbazi, aged 45, and Ghorban Karami Nasr, aged 50, are both from Kuhdasht, while Mehdi Salan had previously been arrested and sentenced to death for drug-related charges. The identities of the remaining prisoners are being verified.
Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, five people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
