Ten Prisoners Transferred to Solitary Confinement in Ghezel Hesar Prison for Execution

Breathing in Confinement – At least ten prisoners who had been arrested on charges of “drug-related offences” and “murder” and sentenced to death were transferred to solitary confinement in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj, in preparation for execution.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on Sunday, 31 August, ten prisoners in Ghezel Hesar Prison were moved to solitary confinement ahead of execution. Their identities have been confirmed by this human rights organisation but are being withheld.

On Sunday morning, eleven prisoners had initially been transferred to solitary confinement, but hours later, the death sentence of one prisoner convicted of drug-related offences was halted, and he was returned to the general ward.

These prisoners had previously been arrested on charges of “drug-related offences” and “murder” and sentenced to death.

 

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
