Breathing in Confinement – The “Tuesdays Against Execution” hunger strike by political prisoners has reached its 100th week, now spanning 55 prisons across the country.

Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on a night that recalls the longest darkness and the promise of the birth of light, we mark one hundred weeks of steadfast resistance—one hundred weeks standing against a death the rulers sought to normalise. The prisoners’ statement is a narrative of tears and courage; of hearts that beat behind bars, families who stood firm, and voices that were not silenced despite the gallows. “Tuesdays Against Execution” is not merely a campaign, but a human outcry against cruelty—reminding us that even in the darkest nights, hope for life and justice endures and finds its way.

Statement of the 100th Week of the “Tuesdays Against Execution” Campaign

One hundred weeks of relentless struggle against the machinery of killing and the gallows

“With congratulations on Yalda Night to all compatriots, to the imprisoned members of the ‘Tuesdays Against Execution’ campaign, and to every prisoner sentenced to death—and with the hope for the abolition of the death penalty in a free and prosperous Iran.

Despite many ups and downs, acts of bravery, and the most painful nights marked by the execution of our companions and fellow prisoners, the ‘Tuesdays Against Execution’ campaign has, in its 100th week, continued its path with undiminished resolve.

One hundred weeks of saying no to execution;
One hundred weeks of relentless struggle against the killing machine and the gallows;
One hundred weeks of standing against cruelty and ruthlessness;
One hundred weeks of breaking the aura of the gallows and the prison;
One hundred weeks of a call to steadfastness by prisoners’ families;
One hundred weeks of resistance against a dictatorship that seeks to silence every voice of protest through executions and death squads and to impose itself upon society.

An illegitimate government which—according to the 72nd United Nations resolution, adopted in last week—has, in 2025 alone, executed more than 2,000 people to date (more than double the number in 2024), with the aim of intimidation and repression.

This campaign will continue without pause and will persist until the abolition of the inhumane death penalty.

We have learned that, coinciding with the 100th week of the ‘Tuesdays Against Execution’ campaign, the women’s ward of Yazd Prison has also declared its participation. We extend our greetings and gratitude to these courageous individuals, and we hope that other prisons across the country will join this campaign in the future, so that we may reach a day when the ‘No to Execution’ campaign spreads nationwide and paves the way for the abolition of this inhumane punishment.

The number of executions in the past month has reached 357.

This wave of killings and executions reflects the extremely critical condition of a regime that, caught in an inescapable vortex of political, social, and economic crises—rendering even ordinary daily life impossible for the people—has turned to the execution of prisoners. In a profoundly flawed assessment of Iranian society, it believes that displaying such brutality through the execution of the youth of this land can pre-empt future protests. Yet this unrestrained savagery has not healed, and will not heal, the wounds of despotism.”
