The 66th Week of the “Tuesdays Against Execution” Campaign Coincides with Protests by Families of Political Prisoners Facing Execution

Breathing in Confinement – On Tuesday, 29 April 2025, during the 66th week of the political prisoners’ hunger strike across 41 prisons in Iran, families of political prisoners sentenced to death held a protest in front of Evin Prison. Meanwhile, a group of citizens in Bukan also staged a demonstration against death sentences.
According to the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Breathing in Confinement, the hunger strike in the 66th week of the “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign expanded to include prisoners from Sanandaj Prison, bringing the total number of participating prisons to 41. Simultaneously, families of political prisoners facing execution gathered outside Evin Prison to protest the death sentences of their loved ones and demanded an end to executions. In Bukan, citizens protested against the issuance and enforcement of execution sentences.
Political prisoners issued a statement extending their condolences to the families of the victims of the horrific explosion in Bandar Abbas, blaming the oppressive rulers and the terrorist IRGC forces for the tragedy. They also extended greetings on International Workers’ Day and National Teachers’ Day.
The hunger strike took place in the following prisons: Greater Tehran, Evin (women’s ward, wards 4 and 8), Ghezel Hesar (units 3 and 4), Central Prisons of Karaj, Khorramabad, Naqadeh, Khoy, Mashhad, Saqqez, Ardabil, Qaem Shahr, Urmia, Marivan, Kamyaran, Baneh, Salmas, Military Prison and Adelabad in Shiraz (women’s and men’s wards), Rasht (women’s and men’s wards), Bam, Tabriz, Arak, Kahnouj, Asadabad, Dastgerd Isfahan, Tabas, Khurin Varamin, Rudsar, Ahvaz (women’s and men’s wards), Ramhormoz, Talesh, Borazjan, Gonbad-e Kavus, Kermanshah, Qazvin, Miandoab, Azbarm Lahijan, women’s ward in Zahedan, Behbahan, and Sanandaj.
In Yasuj, people protested in front of the Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Governor’s Office over the lack of basic infrastructure such as drinking water, roads, and educational facilities.
Oil industry retirees gathered outside the Retirement Fund office in Ahvaz to protest government interference in the fund, poverty, high inflation, low pensions, and unpaid arrears. Their slogans included: “Condolences to the people of Bandar Abbas,” “Our fund is private—government, stay out,” “What happened to our well-funded retirement fund?” “The oil fund is a trust—respect the trust,” “Livelihood and dignity are our absolute rights,” “A retiree’s pay only lasts a week,” “We will never give up,” and “Free healthcare is our right.”
Farmers in Garmsar and Aradan held protests over the unfair distribution of water and the denial of their legal water rights from the Namrud Dam, despite the dam’s sufficient capacity.
In Dezful, Bakhtiari citizens gathered in front of the governor’s office demanding the revocation of execution sentences for two inmates, Karim Farokhvand and Mahmoud Ostadmamzayi, even though the plaintiffs had already pardoned them.
