Breathing in Confinement: On Friday, September 2, 2022, Arash Nasri, a political prisoner imprisoned in Rajaei Shahr prison, attempted suicide by taking pills. Following resuscitation however, he was transferred to solitary confinement.

According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on Friday, September 2, 2022, the political prisoner Arash Nasri attempted suicide by taking pills. He was resuscitated after being transferred to the hospital and afterward, as per the order of the authorities of Rajaei Shahr prison, he was transferred to solitary confinement.

“On Wednesday, August 31, Eliasi, the judge who supervises the political prisoners, went to Rajaei Shahr prison and met with some prisoners, including Arash Nasri.” Eliasi insulted Mr Nasri and used offensive word when speaking to him,” said an informed source to the reporter of “Breathing in Confinement”.

The informed source continued: “Arash Nasri is in a very bad mood. Because his mother died last week and he was not offered a leave to attend her mother’s funeral.”

It should be mentioned that Arash Nasri lost his child in April 2021, but he was not allowed to participate in his child’s funeral. Amin Vaziri, the assistant prosecutor supervising political prisoners at the time, had refused sending Mr. Nasri on leave or transferring him under protection to participate in the mourning ceremony.

Arash Nasri, 36, son of Mohammad Saleh, from Sanandaj, was arrested on December 20, 2019, by the IRGC intelligence agents at his home in Varamin. On January 28, 2020, after his interrogation was completed, he was transferred to the Rajaei Shar Prison in Karaj. Mr. Nasri’s was initially tried at Branch 7 of Evin Prosecutor’s Office.

Mr. Nasri’s court hearing was held on July 21, 2021 at branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran.

In August 2021, he was sentenced to 17 years in prison by the Revolutionary Court in Tehran for the charge of “association and cooperation with the Khabat Organization”. As per the Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, the most severe punishment, i.e. 6 years in prison, is applicable to him.
