Breathing in Confinement – Sunday, 18 May 2025: At least one prisoner sentenced to death on drug-related charges has been transferred to solitary confinement in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj in preparation for the execution of the sentence.
According to information received by Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner has been moved to solitary confinement in Ghezel Hesar Prison for the implementation of his death sentence. The identity of the prisoner has been confirmed as Seyed Abbas Laki.
Seyed Abbas Laki, a 26-year-old from Nourabad, had previously been arrested and sentenced to death on charges related to drug offences.
Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
