Breathing in Confinement – At least two prisoners who had been arrested on charges related to “drug offences” and sentenced to death have been transferred to solitary confinement in Karaj Central Penitentiary for the implementation of their sentences.
According to information received by reporters of Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on Thursday 20 December 2025, two prisoners in Karaj Central Penitentiary were moved to solitary confinement for the execution of their death sentences. The identities of these prisoners have been verified by Breathing in Confinement but are being withheld.
These prisoners had previously been arrested on charges related to “drug offences” and sentenced to death.
Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
