Breathing in Confinement – This week, the “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign continued in 49 prisons across the country. Now in its eighty-second consecutive week, the campaign has become a symbol of resistance by political prisoners and justice-seeking families against the deadly policy of executions in Iran. This collective movement, spanning 49 prisons nationwide, is not merely a symbolic protest but an echo of suffering, deprivation of justice, and at the same time, a cry of defiance from prisoners standing against repression and gross human rights violations.
This Tuesday, the statement of the political prisoners once again highlights the crisis of mass executions, the unbearable pressures on prisoners and their families, and the urgent need for social solidarity in the face of systematic violence. What follows is the shared voice of prisoners who, despite all restrictions, insist from the darkest cells on the right to life and human dignity.
Statement of prisoners participating in the eighty-second week of the “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign in 49 prisons:
The “Tuesdays Against execution” campaign, in its eighty-second week, once again amplifies the voices of prisoners and their families. The continued lack of information regarding five political prisoners sentenced to death and members of this campaign – Vahid Beni-Amrian, Pouya Ghobadi, Babak Alipour, Mohammad Taghavi, and Akbar (Shahrokh) Danshvar Kar – along with a political-security prisoner also sentenced to death, Babak Shahbazi, is a clear sign of gross human rights violations and mounting pressure on prisoners.
In addition, the Supreme Court’s confirmation of the death sentence against political prisoner Sharifeh Mohammadi once again exposes the absence of justice and the cruelty of the judiciary of an execution-driven regime that has lost all legitimacy in society.
The statistics on executions reveal a human tragedy. Between 23 July and 18 August alone, 128 people were executed, and since 20 March 2025 (the beginning of the Iranian calendar year), 619 people have been hanged. These numbers are not merely data points but represent lives and families plunged into grief and suffering.
Members of the “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign strongly condemn this wave of executions and the intensifying pressure on prisoners. They also express gratitude for the courage and perseverance of justice-seeking families who gather in front of prisons and other venues to echo the prisoners’ voices. The campaign calls on all compatriots not to abandon the families of prisoners, especially those sentenced to death, during these difficult times.
The campaign urges the public to express their opposition to unjust sentences and the policy of executions by every possible means, and to demonstrate human solidarity against this systematic violence through protests, gatherings, and support for families of death-row prisoners.
