Twelve Protest Gatherings Held on International Workers’ Day

Breathing in Confinement – On Thursday, 1 May 2025, at least twelve protest gatherings were held.

According to the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Breathing in Confinement, on International Workers’ Day, active and retired teachers gathered in the cities of Shiraz, Nourabad Mamasani, Harsin, Eslamabad-e Gharb, Tehran, Kermanshah, Bushehr, and Hamedan, as well as workers and retirees in Tehran at the House of Workers, to mark the occasion and protest the lack of attention to their demands. In some cities, including Tehran, Bushehr, and Hamedan, security forces attacked the demonstrators. Four teachers were arrested in Tehran and one in Hamedan.

Applicants for the National Housing Project in Qazvin gathered outside the Governor’s Office to protest the authorities’ failure to address their concerns, calling for transparency and accountability. Among the slogans chanted by protesters were:
“We live below the poverty line—let’s fight!”
“We don’t want incompetent officials!”
“Don’t think this is a one-off—we’re here every day!”
“The contractor betrays, the government excuses!”

Social security pensioners in Arak protested low pensions, discrimination and inequality, poor living conditions, poverty, inflation, and soaring prices. They demanded improved pensions, welfare services, free healthcare, and action on their other demands.

Bakers from Rasht and surrounding areas gathered outside the Governor’s Office to protest unpaid bakery subsidies and stagnant bread prices.
