Maryam Derisi Sentenced to Two Years and Three Months’ Imprisonment and 74 Lashes

Breathing in Confinement: Maryam Derisi, one of those arrested during the January protests, has been sentenced to a total of two years and three months’ discretionary imprisonment and 74 lashes.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, based on available information, Maryam Derisi was sentenced by the Revolutionary Court of Shiraz to one year and three months’ discretionary imprisonment on charges of “propaganda against the system.” This sentence was communicated to her defence lawyer, Mahmoud Taravat-Ravani, yesterday.

Previously, Ms Derisi had also been sentenced by Branch 101 of the Criminal Court Two of Kazerun County to one year of discretionary imprisonment and 74 lashes on charges of “disrupting public order and peace.” With the issuance of these two separate sentences, her total punishment amounts to two years and three months’ discretionary imprisonment and 74 lashes.

Maryam Derisi, a civil activist from Kazerun, was arrested during the January 2026 protests in the city. She had previously been detained during the 2022 nationwide protests as well as in 2023.
