Nationwide uprising: Petrochemical workers went on strike; Students’ protests are ongoing

Breathing in Confinement: On October 10, 2022, concurrently with the 25th day of the nationwide uprising in various cities and student sit-ins, oil and petrochemical industry workers went on strike and joined the uprising.

 

According to the” Breathing in Confinement “, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the nationwide uprising that started on September 16, 2022, in protest against the killing of Mahsa Amini, 22, has now passed its 25th day and has spread to all 31 provinces of the country, involving all groups of people.

 

On October 9, 2022, in the city of Sanandaj, the security forces treated people very violently and shot people. The internet of Sanandaj city and surrounding cities has been cut off, and according to Kurdish human rights organizations, a number of protesters have been killed by direct fire from security forces.

 

The Human Rights Organization Hengaw announced: “The number of people killed in Sanandaj on October 9 was more than 4, but in the current situation, given the internet shutdown and even the outage in the telephone network in Sanandaj, it is not possible to report exact numbers.”

 

Yahya Rahimi was one of the protesters killed by security agents. Mr. Rahimi was shot dead in his car just for honking in support of the protesters.

Mohammad Rahimi, the son of Gul Mohammad from “Taqqtan” neighborhood, Dariush Alizadeh, 29, and Peyman Manbari, were also shot dead in the protests held on October 8th.

Arian Moradi, son of Hossein, who had been seriously injured during the protest in Salas Babajani, died on Monday, October 10 due to the severity of his injuries.

One of the protesters, Ismaeil Dezwar, from Saqqez, who had been arrested on September 28, was transferred to the hospital on October 9 and died a day later, on October 10. The security forces threatened Ismail’s family to announce that he has died in a car accident”.

 

On October 10, the oil and petrochemical industry workers went on strike in the ports of Asalouyeh, Abadan and Bushehr.

In a statement, the Haftpeh Sugarcane Workers’ Union congratulated the workers in oil and petrochemical sectors who in support of the people’s protests went on strike, and added: “Long live the unity and solidarity of the workers in various sectors of service and production for freedom.”

 

On the morning of October 10, students at universities of Al-Zahra, Polytechnic, Rasht, Azad- Sohank Branch, Shiraz Medical Sciences, Khajeh Nasir, Allameh- Faculty of Literature, and Qazvin started a sit-in protest.

The students of Al-Zahra University chanted: “O my martyred sister, we continue your way.” The students at Polytechnic University also chanted: ” The machine guns no longer work. Tell my mother she no longer has a daughter.”

In Khaje Nasir University, students transferred their food to the corridor in protest of gender segregation in the canteen.

People are protesting throughout the nights in various cities including Kermanshah, Tehran, Rasht, Golshahr, Karaj, Mashhad, Sanandaj, Tabriz and Marvdasht.

 

The Human Rights Organization Hengaw reported that armed security forces clashed with people in the Baharestan neighborhood in Sanandaj. According to this report, on Monday evening, the security forces fired at people’s houses in Nayser in Sanandaj.

 

Ismail Ahmadi Moghadam, the commander of the National Defense and Strategic Research University, attributed the nationwide protests to “Western media” and said that if it was not because of their interference, no one wanted to “rebel” in the streets.

 

Referring to the arrest of citizens who write slogans in the city, the Islamic Republic Media, Iran Newspaper, claimed that “they receive money between 150 and 300 thousand tomans per night.”

 

With the ongoing arrest of activists, reports indicate that Abed Tavanche, a former political prisoner and former student activist, was arrested in Rasht along with his wife.

 

Also, Milad Fadaei and his wife Saba Sherdoost were arrested in Tehran.

 

In recent days, the number of arrested students has increased. The names of some students at Ferdowsi University in Mashhad who are among the detainees are as follows:

Adel Jalal Ahmadi, a 4th year undergraduate student of computer engineering, was arrested in front of his home on October 3.

Mohammad Mahdi, a 3rd year computer engineering student, was arrested in front of his house on October 3.

Hamid Sharifi, a doctoral student in ecology, was arrested in front of his home on October 3.

Moein Mansoori Tarshizi, a master’s student in geology (with underlying medical dsieases) was arrested on October 7.

Mohammad Reza Karimian, a 3rd year student of Bachelor of Law was arrested in front of his home on October 8.

Safa Qavamsadri, a master’s student in evolutionary biology, was arrested on October 9.

Alireza Fuladi, a 2nd year student in pharmacy.

Amirhossein Hamedsangi, a bachelor’s student in mechanical engineering.

Mehdi Salehi, a bachelor’s student in electrical engineering.

 

 

The spokesman of the Judiciary regarding the statistics of the detainees in nationwide protests claimed: “The number of arrests is minimal and until three days ago, 1,700 detainees were released during the investigation phase.” Massoud Setayshi, said: “400 people were arrested in Tehran, who were released after investigations.” He added: “Also, some people were killed during the protests in Zahedan, and we are collecting the statistics of the detainees in this city.” He claimed: “Six officers died in these events. »

In addition,  referring the recent statement of the Forensic Medicine Organization regarding the cause of Mahsa Amini’s death, Setayshi said: “The most unique and strongest specialized commissions with the presence of 19 experts and elites from various fields of forensic medicine have examined the matter”.

 

Previously, the Forensic Medicine Organization announced in a statement: “The death of the late Mahsa Amini was not caused by head injury or a damage to her vital organs.”
