Breathing in Confinement – 4 Sunni prisoners on death row who had been on hunger strike since 13th June, have been returned back to Rajai Shahr prison on 21st July and they ended their hunger strike.
According to the report of “Breathing in Confinement”, Hamed Ahmadi, Kamal Molaei, Jamshid Dehghani and Jahangir Dehghani went on hunger strike from 13th June, mid night, when they realized that they will be taken from Rajai Shahr prison to Gezel Hesar prison to be executed.
The death sentences of these four prisoners of conscience were not conducted due to human rights organizations and the public reaction. Eventually, after 39 days of hunger strike, these prisoners were taken back to Rajai Shahr prison and ended their hunger strike.
The prisoners are currently being held in Rajai Shahr prison’s quarantine in Karaj.
The four Sunnis prisoners since 4th November last year went on hunger strike which last 75 days, in protest against the death sentences that has been issued and they believe it is unjust. Finally, with the promise of the Ghezelhesar prison’s warden, Mr. Seyed Ali Hosseini to handle their cases and abolishing the death penalty, they were transferred to Rajai Shahr prison, Karaj, and ended their hunger strike.
Indeed, Amnesty International had called over the two urgent action statements at 7th January and 20th June this year for fair trial for the four prisoners and that the authorities must halt their death sentences.
