Protest rallies against rising prices; Four of the detainees in Junaqan were identified

Breathing in Confinement: In recent days, as people protested the unprecedented rise in prices, a large number of protesters were arrested and taken to an unknown locations in various cities, including Junaqan. It is estimated that more than 100 people have been arrested in the City of Junaqan in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province, four of them have recently been identified by “Breathing in Confinement”.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Hossein Mehrabi, Daniel Mehrabi, Saeed Mehrabi and Mehdi Mehrabi were arrested in Junaqan and taken to an unknown location.

According to an informed source, “two of the detainees were farmers and security forces arrested them in their farms.”

In addition, Habib Fadaei as well as four other members of his family, named Kamran Fadaei, Farzad Fadaei, Mehrdad Fadaei and Behnam Fadaei were arrested on May 13, 2022. Concurrently, Soroush Abazari, a civil activist and resident of Junaqan was also arrested. Breathing in Confinement had previously published the news of their arrest.

Following the announcement of “modulation of subsides” and unprecedented increase in prices, protests began in various cities of Khuzestan Province, including Izeh, Shadegan and Susangard. From the evening of May 13, however, people in other cities including Khorramabad, Farsan, Boroujerd, Dehdasht, Doroud and Ardabil also took to the streets and protested the raised prices.

In the last five days, protests have spread to the cities of Junaqan, Hafshjan, Shahrekord and other cities of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari.
