Nationwide uprising; Bita Haghani sentenced to 18 years in prison

Breathing in Confinement: Bita Haghani Nasimi, a graphics student at Ghodsiyeh University in Sari and one of the detainees of the nationwide uprising, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison as well as a ban from leaving the country by the first branch of the Revolutionary Court in Sari.

 

According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’  Rights League in Iran, Bita Haghani Nasimi, one of the detainees of the nationwide uprising in Sari, was sentenced to prison.

 

According to this ruling issued by the first branch of the Revolutionary Court  in Sari, notified to her lawyer, Ms. Haghani Nasimi has been acquitted from the charge of corruption on earth and sentenced to 18 years of imprisonment, 2 years of ban on leaving the country and confiscation of the instruments of  crime for the benefit of the government.

If this sentence is upheld in the Court of Appeals, applying Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, 5 years of imprisonment will be applicable to her.

Ms. Haghani, a graphics student at Ghodsiyeh University of Sari, has been in custody since October 18. Majid Kaveh, his lawyer, announcing this news, stated that the verdict is appealable.
