Teachers’ nationwide protest rallies; Detention of dozens of teachers in Yasuj as well as various other cities

Breathing in Confinement: On May 12, 2022, concurrently with the teachers’ nationwide protest rallies in various cities, security forces raided the homes of dozens of teachers in the city of Yasuj, arrested them and took them to an unknown location.

 

On May 11, 2022, the employed and retired teachers gathered in front of the Education Department Building in various cities following the call of the Coordination Council of Teachers’ Unions of Iran. The most important demand of the teachers was the release of the detained teachers.

 

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on Thursday, May 12, 2022, concurrently with the nationwide teachers’ protest rallies, dozens of teachers in Yasuj were arrested by security forces and taken to an unknown location. Some of the detainees are: Ms. Aghaei, Ms. Khadijeh Mubaraki, Ms. Poozesh, Ms. Soraya Ghasemi and Mr. Nowruz Rashidi, Mr. Hojir Hojjati, Mr.Behnam Asifajah, Mr. Yaghoub Zare, Mr. Rahim Zare, Mr. Mohammad Hosseini, Mr. Momeni, Mr. Sadat, Mr. Armaghani, Mr. Mansouri, Mr. Aref and Mr. Haghgu.

 

On May 11, 2022, following the call by the Coordinating Council of Teachers’ Unions of Iran, the employed and retired teachers staged protest rallies in front of the Education Department Buildings in various cities. Their most important demand was the release of the detained teachers.

 

In other cities including Mashhad and Tehran also some teachers and protesters have reportedly been arrested.

 

On May 12, the Coordinating Council of Iranian Teachers’ Unions announced the arrest of at least four protesters in Tehran and one other in Ahvaz. Massoud Farhikhteh, Jaleh Rouhzad, Lotfollah Jamshidi and Masoumeh Dehghan were arrested in front of the Islamic Parliament in Tehran and Siamak Chehrazi in Ahvaz. Mr. Chehrazi was beaten during his arrest.

As per the reports, Mr. Ramezani, a teacher in Mashhad, has also been arrested.

Reports received from Langarud indicate the arrest of Mr. Mahmoud Beheshti and Dr. Asadi along with several other teachers.

In addition, a number of teachers, including Jafar Ebrahimi, Mohammad Habibi, Rasoul Bodaghi, and Ali Akbar Baghbanan, were detained by security forces during the nationwide teacher protests on May 1, on the eve of Teacher’s Day.
