Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Monday, October 14, 2024, at least one prisoner was executed in Jiroft Prison on charges of “murder.”

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news agency of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was executed at dawn on Monday, October 14, 2024, in Jiroft Prison.

The identity of the prisoner has been confirmed as Younes Akhtar Samar by Breathing in Confinement.

According to the report, Younes Akhtar Samar, a resident of Jiroft, had previously been arrested and sentenced to death on murder charges. He was a father of five children and had become involved in an unintentional altercation due to financial difficulties stemming from his wife’s hospitalization. During this encounter, without premeditated intent, he inadvertently caused the death of another person. Last night, his family and friends gathered outside the prison, hoping to secure the victim’s family’s pardon. However, Younes Akhtar Samar was hanged at dawn on Monday, October 14, in Jiroft Prison.

According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
