Breathing in Confinement – At dawn on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, the death sentence of a prisoner convicted of “espionage and collaboration with foreign governments” was carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a political-security prisoner was executed by hanging in Ghezel Hesar Prison in the early hours of April 30. The prisoner has been identified as Mohsen Langar-Neshin.
The state-affiliated Mizan News Agency, linked to Iran’s judiciary, confirmed the execution and stated that Langar-Neshin had been convicted of “enmity against God (moharebeh) and corruption on earth (efsad fel-arz) through intelligence cooperation and espionage for Israel.”
Langar-Neshin, a 34-year-old from Nowshahr, was arrested in July 2023. He was subjected to torture and psychological pressure and was coerced into making forced confessions with the false promise of avoiding a death sentence.
He was later sentenced to death by Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Abolghasem Salavati, in a non-transparent process without the right to choose a lawyer. The Supreme Court’s Branch 41 upheld the verdict, and the case was sent for execution. His three separate requests for retrial were denied.
Throughout this time, his family was pressured and silenced with false promises, barred from speaking publicly. However, once the execution became imminent, they made the case public.
In a video message, Mohsen’s father stated that his son had been sentenced to death in an unfair trial based on a case full of flaws and ambiguities.
Mohsen Langar-Neshin was transferred to solitary confinement on Saturday, April 26, 2025, in preparation for execution. His sentence was carried out at dawn on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, in Ghezel Hesar Prison.
