Breathing in Confinement – On Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at least ten protest gatherings and demonstrations took place across Iran.
According to the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran (Breathing in Confinement), Bakhtiari residents of Dezful staged a sit-in protest in front of Dezful Prison from Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning. This was their second day of protest against the impending executions of two prisoners whose death sentences had not been revoked despite the plaintiffs having withdrawn their complaints. Protesters demanded the cancellation of the executions.
In Kermanshah, landowners from the Havaniruz township held a protest against the municipal confiscation of their lands. Security forces attempted to disrupt the demonstration by firing into the air. Protesters responded with chants of “shameless, shameless” and confronted the officers.
Employees of the Bakhtar Regional Electricity Company in Arak protested over the lack of status conversion from contract to permanent employment.
Poultry farmers in Khuzestan province gathered in front of the Justice Department building in Ahvaz, protesting the deteriorating state of the poultry industry, economic bankruptcy, high production costs, and unfair pricing imposed by slaughterhouses and intermediaries.
Bakers in Qom, Isfahan, Khomein, and Kermanshah also protested over unpaid bakery subsidies and stagnant bread prices. Protesters in Qom chanted: “Enough with the promises—our table is empty!”
Retirees from the Tehran Bus Company protested the non-payment of their allowances related to hazardous work conditions and overdue benefits.
