The identity of a prisoner executed at dawn on Sunday, May 11, 2025, in Shahroud Prison on charges of rape has been confirmed.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was executed at dawn on Sunday in Shahroud Prison. His identity, Alireza Sedighi, has been verified by Breathing in Confinement.
The report quotes Mohammad Sadegh Akbari, the head of the Semnan Province Judiciary, who stated that following a complaint filed by a young woman from Shahroud who was the victim of rape, legal proceedings led to a death sentence, which was later upheld by one of the branches of the Supreme Court. The sentence was carried out at dawn on Sunday, 11 May 2025, in Shahroud Prison. He however, did not identify the prisoner.
Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
