Breathing in Confinement – The death sentence of at least one prisoner convicted on drug-related charges was carried out this morning in Adelabad Prison, Shiraz.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the prisoner was Afshin Dehghan, son of Hamdollah, 36, from the village of Jovalighan in Jereh and Baladeh District, Kazerun County. His identity has been confirmed by this human rights organisation.

Earlier on Tuesday morning, some sources had reported that the execution was for a “murder” conviction. We apologise for the error; Mr Dehghan’s primary charge was “drug-related offences.”

According to a local source, drugs were found in his home at the time of his arrest. However, Afshin Dehghan consistently denied the accusation, claiming the substances belonged to a friend. Nevertheless, the court sentenced him to death, and the sentence was carried out at dawn on Tuesday, 12 August 2025, in Shiraz Central Prison.
