Death of a prisoner in West Islamabad Central Prison

Breathing in Confinement: On Sunday March 21, 2021, following a severe Gastrointestinal bleeding, and as a result of being neglected the prison infirmary staffs, a 35-year-old prisoner died in the Central Prison of West Islamabad in Kermanshah province.

According to Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the identity of this ordinary prisoner has been established as Shahab Darunparvar.

According to the report, Shahab Darunparvar was been arrested two months ago without having any previous medical history. He however, unexpectedly died in prison, and 3 days after his death, his body has yet to be returned to his family.

A informed source said: “The body was taken to a Forensic Medicine Department for autopsy, but under the pretext of the Nowruz holidays, Shahab’s body has been kept inside the morgue for three days.”

Shahab Darunparvar, from Mumi village in West Islamabad, was father of a 10-year-old child. He was arrested two months ago and transferred to prison for failing to pay his wife’s marriage portion.

According to Statistics Center of Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, over the last one year, at least 12 prisoners in Kurdistan prisons have lost their lives after being denied of medical care.
