Breathing in Confinement – The death sentence of at least one prisoner who had previously been arrested on the charge of “relationship out of marriage” and subsequently sentenced to death has been carried out in Isfahan Prison.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at dawn on Wednesday, 26 November 2025, a prisoner was hanged in Isfahan Prison. The identity of the prisoner, Sadegh Rafiei, has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement.

Sadegh Rafiei, 30, from Kāviyānī village in Falavarjan County, was arrested around ten years ago following a complaint filed under the charge of “relationship out of marriage,” and was later sentenced to death by the judiciary. According to informed sources, he had been in a relationship with a girl for about eighteen years, and following personal disputes, the girl filed a complaint against him. These sources report that the complainant later withdrew the complaint and pardoned him. Nevertheless, the death sentence was carried out at dawn on Wednesday, 26 November 2025, in Isfahan Prison.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
