Breathing in Confinement: On Saturday, August 24, 2024, a citizen from the village of Naserkabadeh Rudbeneh in Langarud County died under torture after being severely beaten by police forces following his arrest.
According to “Breathing in Confinement,” the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a citizen from the village of Seyed Mahalleh, a suburb of Rudbeneh, Lahijan, died after being severely beaten at the police station following his arrest.
Reports have identified this citizen as Seyed Mohammad Mirmousavi, a 36-year-old single man from Langarud.
According to the “Breathing in Confinement” reporter, local Basij forces attempted to arrest Seyed Mohammad Mirmousavi, but he resisted. Subsequently, police officers intervened, using excessive violence to arrest and transfer him to the police station. Due to severe torture and beatings, Seyed Mohammad Mirmousavi died while in custody. His body was transferred to the Lahijan Intelligence Office instead of a hospital.
An eyewitness stated that Seyed Mohammad Mirmousavi’s hands and feet were broken during the torture, and his body bore visible signs of bruising and other injuries, including a hole in his lower back.
After the news spread, the Gilan Judiciary claimed that five police officers involved in the case of Seyed Mohammad Mirmousavi had been arrested. However, security forces have pressured Mirmousavi’s family to avoid publicizing the matter.
On Thursday, the funeral and burial ceremony for Seyed Mohammad Mirmousavi were held.
