Mahan Jalaldoost sentenced to 1 year in prison

Breathing in Confinement: Branch 36 of the Court of Appeals in Tehran upheld the sentence of one year in prison for Mahan Jalaldoost, a citizen living in Tehran. Mr. Jalaldoost had previously been sentenced by Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran to 1 year in prison as well as 2 years ban from leaving the country, and from membership in political parties. His car, cell phone and computer also will accordingly remain confiscated.

 

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Mahan Jalaldoost has been sentenced to one year in prison on charges of “propaganda activities against the regime.” He was also sentenced to a two-year ban from leaving the country, and from membership in political parties, groups and factions, as well as the seizure of his cell-phone and his computer.

 

It should be mentioned that Mr. Jalaldoost had been arrested by security forces on November 22, 2020 on Valiasr Street in Tehran and transferred to the Intelligence and Public Security Police Detention Center. And a day later he was transferred to Ward 4 of Evin Prison. Following his arrest, security agents confiscated Mr. Jalaldoost’s car and some of his other personal belongings including his cell-phone as well as those of his family.

 

Mr. Jalaldoost was charged with “conspiracy and collusion to act against national security” in Branch 6 of the Evin Courthouse, and submitted his final defense on November 13, 2020.

He was finally released from Evin Prison on January 4, 2021, on 500 million Tomans bail, awaiting the court’s decision.
